WHITE WATER WEEKEND ON THE UPPER DART
This weekend we finally had some rain in the South West and both myself and Chris thought we would take full advantage of a little water in the rivers. Every year, the SAS Hurley Classic is a huge event that attracts hundreds of paddlers of many different disciplines. Be it racing, freestyle, stand-up paddle boarding or old ‘skool’ boating, this is the place to be. The event is held on Hurley Weir on the Thames river, which during the winter months (at the correct levels) forms a unique feature, that allows both hole and wave moves to be performed in the different gates of the weir. SCOTLAND STEEP CREEKING COURSE
Last week I had the opportunity to travel to Scotland with Dennis Newton from Sweetwater Coaching for a Steep Creeking course. Scotland is well known for being one of the UK’s premier steep creeking areas with a virtually endless number of small burn and creeks. However, everything is very rain dependent and small streams can turn into raging torrents in a matter of hours with the right rainfall.
